Artà is located in the northeast of the island, around 60 km from Palma. It is a small town, and is surrounded by coastline and lovely sandy beaches. It is a traditional town that is proud for its history and heritage, making few concessions for tourism.

The sanctuary and its walls were originally constructed in the 14th century, but were rebuilt in the 19th century.
